Cindy Thompson and Glenn Brown, a Canadian couple from Ontario, sent $280,000 to XMEX Investments, a company co owned by Harry Robinson, a British national, and Jacqueline Herrera Herrera, a Mexican lawyer and realtor.
The promise was enticing: a condo in Playa del Carmen that would yield "100% profit" through a condo flip play.
