The Quietening of Food Cravings: A New Frontier in GLP 1 Research Recent research on oral GLP 1 drugs has revealed a previously unknown mechanism by which these medications can affect the brain's reward circuit, leading to reduced pleasure driven eating.
Funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), this study suggests that small molecule oral GLP 1 drugs may be more effective than their injectable counterparts in curbing cravings for food.
The findings, published in Nature, indicate that these medications can quieten a deep brain reward circuit, known as the central amygdala, which is involved in desire and reward.
